100% electric groomer powered by PowerModule

It’s a pretty baby, 9m long and weighing over 11 tons, that silently roams the French Alps to groom the ski slopes.
This snow groomer’s diesel engine (almost 13L in displacement) has been replaced by electric motors, which are more reliable and far more efficient than the original combustion engine. The result is a 100% electric machine, consuming four times less energy and with a range of 6 to 7 hours, the equivalent of a night’s work on the slopes.

Romain Dupon, head of the eponymous company based in Pontcharra (France), is proud of his teams who, after several years’ hard work, have developed the world’s first 100% electric snow groomer.
For the battery, PowerTech Systems collaborated with CM Dupon to provide the energy storage solution needed to power the vehicle.

The PowerModule product range met all the project’s requirements: high energy density, extreme modularity to integrate the packs into the cramped space available under the bodywork, ease of installation, and real-time monitoring of the installation.

For this project, 77 PowerModules are integrated on board the retrofitted “Alpine 510” snow groomer, constituting a 415 kWh, 600VDC Lithium Iron Phosphate battery pack.

The first snow groomers will go into operation this winter 2023 in various Alpine resorts (Tignes, La Plagne, etc.), under the aegis of Compagnie des Alpes (CDA).

PowerTech Systems is now part of French Tech

PowerTech Systems joins French Tech community

Poissy, April 17, 2018

The French manufacturer PowerTech Systems, specialized in the design of Lithium-Ion energy storage systems, integrates the “French Tech” movement, the ecosystem of French start-ups in France and internationally.

French Tech” refers to all those who work in or for French start-ups in France or abroad. Convinced that it is necessary to encourage the emergence of successful start-ups in France to generate innovation, economic value and new jobs, the Government created this initiative in 2013.

The principle is simple: to rely on the initiatives of the French Tech members themselves, to enhance what already exists, to make the brand grow and evolve.

In turn, PowerTech Systems is committed to participating in this collective initiative. PowerTech Systems now carries high, a common standard for both French Tech members and the state that supports innovative companies.

The French Tech value is to be built collectively with all French actors (public actors, media, general public, large groups, research institutes, associations, etc…).

We are very proud to participate in this initiative, which highlights the innovation, technicality and expertise of our technicians and engineers on our territory. Joining this movement is also a way for us to highlight the quality of our scientific and technical training, as well as the enthusiasm of our employees to constantly innovate.

Article : PowerTech solutions for Self-consumption

Since July 2016, French national law supervises renewable energy Self-consumption for end users.

Self consumption defines a producer (self-producer) that partially or completely consumes energy electric energy produced by his own installation.

Self-consumption with batteries

It represents a real advantage as it maximises energy consumption locally produced.
Through this system, it is easier to reduce energy bill and get a return on investment.
Adding a battery considerably improves its efficiency. This system storages the energy produced during the day (…). See the article (only in French)

The continuous supply of electrical energy is a key issue to be addressed

The solar panels do not work at night and badly with bad weather. Also, wind turbines depend on wind conditions. Generators depend on the supply of gasoline.

The energy generated at a certain time of the day must be stored to optimise domestic use, without disrupting supply and with permanent control of the remaining energy reserve.
The batteries required for energy storage must be durable, reliable, environmentally friendly, and must be able to supply energy for long periods of time without being powered by the grid.

The Self-consumption market in France

In 2017,

  • about 15 000 households self-consume their own-produced electricity,
  • and 5,000 other households sell their surplus.
  • According to the Commission de régulation de l’énergie (CRE), France has 14,000 self-consumers in 201
