PowerTech Systems is pleased to announce that it is equipping the “Ducasse sur Seine” electric boat with its  PowerRack®  modular lithium battery system.

This 100% electric boat (propulsion, on-board equipment, kitchens, etc.) is powered entirely by our Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries, representing a stored energy of 720 kWh divided into two totally independent PowerRack banks.

The PowerRack battery system, certified by Bureau Veritas in early 2018, consists of 24 cabinets of 30kWh in 700V DC, connected in parallel. These batteries represent a weight of about 9 tons on board. This cabinet system limits floor space and allows energy to be stacked over the entire height of the hull, making the installation compact and integrated into the boat.

The “Ducasse sur Seine” has been in production since September 10, 2018. It delights the taste buds of its passengers twice a day (lunch and dinner), every day of the week. The trip to the heart of Paris is done without vibrations, silently, and without any pollution.

The official inauguration of the Ducasse sur Seine took place on 25 September 2018 in the presence of Mrs Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, and other personalities.

EclairSea jumps into electric

EclairSea promotes econavigation by proposing the electrical conversion of boats. With a first successful experience on vessel “les 2 brigands” for the association “Marché sur l’eau”.
The comfort and technical advantages of an electric motor are far from negligible: silent and no vibrationnavigation, with almost no maintenance, space saving and better weight distribution on the boats.

PowerTech Systems contributes to this success by integrating several PowerBrick+ 250Ah 12V batteries into the system. They are more ecological, more compact, and totally secure. The presence of an integrated BMS ensures optimum safety and prevents any risk of explosion and self-ignition thanks to their Lithium Iron Phosphate technology, LiFePO4.

  • Small weight

    Lithium iron phosphate batteries provide a better power-to-weight ratio than lead batteries. They are on average 2 to 3 times lighter than traditional lead-acid batteries.

  • Small footprint

    Thanks to the compactness of Lithium Iron Phosphate technology, it can be accommodated in a considerable number of locations. In addition, it can be positioned in any direction. But above all, it increases the storage capacity (Ah) for the same volume.

  • Very high lifespan

    Lithium iron phosphate 12V batteries have a large number of charging cycles (up to 5000). This allows them to last more than 10 years.

  • High safety

    Equipped with a management system called Battery Management System (BMS), the cells of the lithium ion battery are automatically balanced during charging. The BMS stops the battery operation in case of:

    o Overcurrent
    o Over-voltage (during loading)
    o Undervoltage (during discharge)
    o Overheating

The French manufacturer PowerTech Systems obtains the Type Approval marine certification. This for its scalable Energy Storage System product line: PowerRack®.

The Lithium-Ion storage system is designed for electric traction in marine applications.

PowerRack® product line has been approved by the Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore. This actor in maritime field is the world leader player in testing, inspection, certification services.

The «Type Approval» certification opens up possibilities. Indeed, the PowerRack® product line can now be used in a huge variety of hybrid and 100% electric propulsion systems for marine applications.

As a use case, PowerRack®system will be set up in 2018 on-board a 100% electric restaurant boat (Michelin-starred restaurant). It is based at the foot of Eiffel Tower. This boat will operate on the Seine river. It will use stored energy in its batteries to power the electric motors and supplies energy on board.

The modular and scalable PowerRack® system offers the possibility to set-up all kind of energy storage configuration. That is to say from 2.56 kWh to 1MWh with a voltage ranging from 51,2V to 921,6V. The PowerRack® product-line is equipped with an innovating system called “BMS-Matrix®”. It allows full control and total safety of operation.

100% compliant

In order to get this marine certification, PowerTech Systems carried out a complete series of tests (safety tests, vibration and environment tests, resistance to severe environments, etc). These tests ensure our customers that our products are rated with high level of safety and reliability for marine applications.

The «Type Approval» certification covers the whole of the lawful, technical and safety requirements. These ones are defined by Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore for the type “Steel Ship” with passenger’s transportation.

This French-made product offers the possibility to ramp-up green energy adoption. It could be used for large transport vehicles. Such as the river or commercial vessels which is an important source of gas for greenhouse effects.

Hydrogen mobile electricity generator, “MobHylpower”, powers an entire event in Switzerland!

PowerTech Systems is proud to participate in this event through its partnership with PowiDian and its 30 kW hydrogen generator set, the MobHylpower M30.
The latter is equipped with PowerBrick+® batteries and the modular Lithium-Ion Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) PowerRack® storage system, approved by Bureau Veritas Marine and Offshore.

Applause for the PowiDian company that developed the “MobHylPower“, a mobile, silent and non-polluting electricity generator. It is supplied by hydrogen cylinders (type B20 or B50) and can be transported on land with limited access or in confined spaces.

It was a success! The generator provided clean energy throughout the event (from 16h to midnight), capable of managing a wide load range (from 1kW to 25kW).

Quick facts :
PowiDian offers two “zero emission” generator set power ranges: the “S4” with a power of 4 kVA and the “M30” with a power of 30 kVa.
Solutions that allow a number of start/stop times and an equivalent or even longer service life than generators in the same power range.

High accuracy measurements of voltage (V), capacity (Ah), power (W) and battery energy

CC75, CC150, CC500 Coulomb Counters from MyLithiumBattery.com allow the user to obtain a state of charge in % (SoC – State Of Charge), and a precise depth of discharge (DoD) of the battery. They also calculate, in real time, the time remaining before the battery is completely empty.

The CC 75/150/500 are suitable for batteries with an operating voltage from 8V to 80V DC.
There are 3 versions :

  • CC75 measuring from 0 to 75A, compatible with M6 terminals
  • CC150 measuring from 0 to 150A, compatible with M8 terminals
  • CC500 measuring from 0 to 500A, compatible with M10 terminals

For applications using batteries, the situation is often critical if users are suddenly without energy (for example electric bicycles, security cameras, alarms, IoT, on-board sensors…).
In these cases, the accuracy of a Coulomb Counter for batteries State of Charge measurement is a “must have”.

Rely on CC75, CC150, CC500 coulombs counters

Simply measuring a voltage at the terminals of a battery is not enough to know its precise state of charge (SoC).

With our CC75/150/500, the advantage is real and allows precise counting of coulombs to determine their state of charge, as well as a measurement of the battery voltage and the instantaneous current used. This information is used to monitor the charge status of the system with battery.

Coulomb Counter allows accurate SoC nformation that can be communicated onto a bus network (CAN, TTL232, RS232).

Once the counter is initialized, it counts the coulombs used for a discharge, and those generated by a charger in order to take partial charges into account.

This principle has the advantage of being compatible with all battery technologies (lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4), lithium-ion, Li-Polymer, lead-acid and nickel-metal hybrid batteries…).
